Bernice Miller

August 24, 1920 — March 30, 2020

Formerly of Sinking Spring

Bernice A. Miller, 99, formerly of Sinking Spring, passed away on March 30, 2020 in Easton, MD where she lived her past six years to be near her daughter.

She was the loving spouse of the late Arlington R. Miller. Together they celebrated 70 wonderful years of marriage.  They traveled extensively throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe and Africa.  They also loved to dance and could be seen almost every Saturday night dancing the night away at Green Valley Country Club.

Born on a farm in Shamrock, PA on August 24, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Austin and Katie I. (Christman) Fritch.

Bernice was a 1938 graduate of Kutztown High School and went on to graduate from McCann’s School of Business.

Bernice worked in the office of the Hamburg steel mill during World War II while husband Arlie was in Europe fighting with the Army.  Newlyweds, they were separated by this war for five years.  Bernice worked for 34 years at Ronco’s Pharmacy, in various capacities, retiring as the assistant manager in 1989. She served as treasurer of the West Lawn Branch of the Reading Hospital & Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary.  A longtime member of Advent Lutheran Church she served as Sunday school teacher, church secretary, and other voluntary capacities.  One of her favorite pastimes was quilting with the Advent quilters who always said she made the best small stitches of anyone.

Bernice touched so many lives in her 99 years.  She unfailingly saw the good in everyone and always made the best of any circumstances.  She was dedicated to her family and friends and was always there when needed.  She will be greatly missed.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her siblings: Ray, Glen and Christine Fritch.

Survivors include her children: Kathleen M. Bodey, wife of David of Easton, MD and A. Robert Miller, Jr., husband of Mary of Carlisle. Also surviving are grandchildren: Kristina Bales, Arlington R. Miller, III, Matthew R. Miller, and Jeffrey A. Miller, step-grandchildren: Kimberly White and Kristen Evanoff, 6 great-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Advent Lutheran Church in West Lawn.
