Muhlenberg Township, PA

Alma (Rock) Nygren, 84, of Muhlenberg Township, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at The Reading Hospital. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late William R. Rock and late Margaret (Smith) Rock.

Alma was a wonderful and versatile woman. Besides being a generous, loving wife, mother, and homemaker, she volunteered with various organizations including FISH in Berks County and pet Adoption Network in New Jersey. In addition, she had an extensive and varied career. She graduated with a B.S. in English from Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie-Mellon University). Initially she worked for two textbook publishers, then worked for an employment agency, as well as quality control work for a medical instrument manufacturer. She also got her paralegal certificate and worked as a judicial secretary for a Berks County judge, then as an aide to an on-air traffic reporter for a Reading radio station. Alma then turned to technical writing and developed, help screens for military software.

In addition, Alma was a accomplished musician, playing Piano, Violin and Oboe. Alma loved nature. She was especially fond of walks in the woods or on the beach. She loved gardening and growing flowers and plants, both indoor and outdoor. At home, she enjoyed the birds that came to the feeders and the deer and other animals that visited her yard.

Alma is survived by her loving husband of almost 62 years, Stephen Nygren, her son, Gordon Nygren, grandchildren, Donald Nygren, Jessica Parent, and 5 great grandchildren.
