Betty Ann Gossert

Betty Ann Gossert, 85, of Reading, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Berks Heim. She was the loving wife of the late John R. Gossert Sr., who passed away on June 14, 1996. Together they shared 36 years of marriage. Born on December 24, 1938, in Kulptown, PA, she was the daughter of the late James A. and E. Irene (Painter) Kerr. During her life, she worked as an Assistant Teacher for the Berks County Intermediate Unit for 19 years; she later worked for Boscov’s in the gift-wrapping department from 1994 until retiring in 2015.

Betty enjoyed knitting, going to the beach, and attending all her children and grandchildren’s sporting events. She was a 50 plus year member and a Past Matron of local Eastern Star Chapters. She was a member of New Life of Shillington. Betty & her coworkers from American Casualty (1955-1956) held lifelong friendships. They got together monthly since then -sharing weddings, births, loss of spouses, etc. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Berks Heim for their incredible care to Betty.

Betty is survived by her children, John R. Gossert Jr., husband of Carol A. Chelius, of Sinking Spring; James A. Gossert, husband of Jennifer L. Gossert, of Shillington; Tamara L. Gossert, of Reading; Gloria J. Quaintance, wife of Darren S. Quaintance, of Morgantown; grandchildren, Christopher P. Lash, husband of Emiline; Caleb J. Quaintance; Delanie C. Gossert; James A. Gossert, Jr. ; Joshua D. Quaintance; step-grandsons, Justin C. Quaintance, husband of Kate; Kyle M. Chelius; Kurt A. Chelius, husband of Ashley; 2 great-grandchildren, Jayden R. Lash; Austin P. Lash; and step great-grandchildren, Cameron Chelius; and Madison Chelius.

Betty was predeceased by her sister Virginia Allen.

Funeral Service for Betty will be held at Bean Funeral  Homes 129 E. Lancaster Ave. Shillington, PA 19607 on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 11:00am. Eastern Star service to be conducted at 10:45am by Reading Chapter #251. Interment will follow at Birdsboro Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 9:00am-11:00am.
