Bettylou P. Burns, 97, formerly of Cumru Township, passed away Monday, March 6, 2023 at the Mifflin Center.  Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Mrs. Burns was the daughter of the late Martin Luther Pittman and Hildegard W. (Wagener) Pittman Callahan.  She received her associate degree from Penn State University Berks Campus.  Mrs. Burns was employed by UGI for 12 years retiring in 1992.  Mrs. Burns was a member of Christ Yocum Lutheran Church in Grill. She is survived by her children Claire J. Neri, wife of Alfred N. Neri of Exeter Township; Walter R. Burns, Jr., husband of Gloria Urban of Florida; P. Mark Burns, husband of Jane Jurkevics of Arlington, Virginia; Dennis S. Burns, companion of Charlotte Gartman-St. George of Bakersfield, California and was preceded in death by her daughter Karen L. Burns in 1991.  Mrs. Burns is also survived by her 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and many step great grandchildren and step great great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her brother Dr. Kenneth A. Pittman, husband of Dr. Esther Hamilton Pittman of South Carolina.

Mrs. Burns was active volunteering to many local organizations over the years, among them Alvernia Senior College, Reading Public Museum, Berks County Historical Society, Reading is Fundamental, Berks County Heritage Center, Greater Berks Food Bank, Meals on wheels, libraries, the Red Hats, and Girl Scouts.

Her passions were walking, reading, listening to music, gardening, crocheting, crafting and sewing. But most of all her family was her greatest love, always foremost in her thoughts and heart.

Graveside Service will be held at Lorraine Park Cemetery, Baltimore, Maryland at the convenience of the family.

 In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Meals On Wheels, Berks ENCORE, 40 North 9th Street, Reading, PA 19601 in memory of Mrs. Bettylou P.
