Bonnie M. (Beechert) Goodwin, 83, of Reading, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at St. Joseph Medical Center. Born in Reading, she was the daughter of Doris M. (Drace) and Vernon S. Beechert. She was the loving wife of William H. Goodwin, III and together they shared 48 years of marriage before his passing on October 2, 2010. She was the companion of Ronald Smeal for the past six and a half years. Bonnie graduated from Reading High School in 1958 and continued her education at McCann Business School. She was on the committee for organizing class reunions for her class at Reading High and was very active in the Alpha Iota sorority from McCann’s. Family was very important to Bonnie; she was her grandchildren’s biggest supporter, regularly attending their sporting events. She loved traveling, going to bible study, and baseball games with Ron.
In addition to her companion, Ron, Bonnie is survived by her children, Michael L. Goodwin, husband of Helen of Muhlenberg, Kevin J. Goodwin, husband of Kristin of Wernersville, Michelle E. (Goodwin) West, wife of S. Lance of Florida, and Brian T. Goodwin, husband of Reneé of Greencastle. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Brandi Goodwin, Steven Goodwin, husband of Stephanie, Meghan Goodwin, Alexa Thompson, wife of Brendan, Madison Goodwin, Savannah West, and Alexandra West, her two step grandchildren, one great grandchild, and five step great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at 3:00 pm at Calvary Baptist Church, 510 Park Ave., Reading, PA 19611. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Bonnie’s final resting place will be Forest Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in honor of Bonnie Goodwin to the ALS Association, 321 Norristown Rd. Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002 and/or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
