Carol Nies

Carol E. Nies, 83, of Lower Alsace Township, passed away Saturday December 4, 2021 at 2:55 pm at Mifflin Center.  She was the wife of the late John A. Nies who passed away August 23, 1994.  Born in Reading, Mrs. Nies was the daughter of the late Howard and Ruth N. (Moyer) Austin.  She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church of Christ, Reading and began her employment career at Western Electric as microscope technician then as a handbag maker for Letise Handbags in Reading and finally was employed by Polymer Plastics and Bachman Pretzels as a cleaning person until her retirement.  Mrs. Nies is survived by her children Cheryl L. Reis, wife of Roland Reis of West Lawn; Debra A. Aukstakalnis of Wernersville; Kevin J. Nies, husband of Nancy M. Nies of Lower Alsace Township; Todd S. Nies, husband of Patricia R. Nies of Lower Alsace Township; Kimberly L. Bonsall, companion of Dennis Miller of McClure, PA; Troy A. Nies, husband of Tammy L. Nies of Lower Alsace Townhip; Jan A. Nies, husband of Nancy L. Nies of Laureldale and her 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her brothers Gene H. Austin of Mount Penn and Ronald Austin of Cumru Township and was preceded in death by her brother Richard Austin.

Graveside Service will be held at Forest Hills Memorial Park at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County 58 Kennel Road, Birdsboro, PA 19508 in memory of Mrs. Carol E.
