Carole A. Schmehl

Carole A. “Dewey” Schmehl (Mengel), 83, of Wernersville, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Berks Heim. She was the loving wife to Jay W. Schmehl, who she shared over 63 years of marriage with. Born in West Reading, Carole was the daughter of the late, Allen W. Mengel and Gerda E. (Fritzsche). She was a graduate of Wilson High School, class of 1958, and went on to graduate with her Bachelor of Arts & Education from Kutztown State Class of 1963. 

Carole was a member of St. Daniel’s Lutheran Church, Robesonia, serving as the Chair of Worship and Music Committee, and singing in the Senior Choir. She also served on the Board of Directors for Western Berks Free Medical Clinic and was the President of The Friends of Wernersville Library. Carole was also a member of Speaker’s Bureau of the Berks Coalition on Organ and Tissue Donation and Gift of Life.

In addition to her husband Jay, Carole is survived by her son, Bradley J. Schmehl, husband of Rebecca, of York, and daughter, Valerie Ellen Schmehl, wife of James LeVan, of Holiday, Florida. She is also survived by her 2 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, as well as her brother, William Mengel, and sister, Diana DeBold.

Carole is predeceased by her son, Eric A. Schmehl.

Memorial service for Carole will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024, at 1:00 PM at St. Daniel’s Lutheran Church, 480 Big Spring Road, Robesonia, PA 19551.
