Cathleen A. "Cathy" Woomert

The angels sang on the morning of November 14, 2025, as they welcomed Dr. Cathleen Woomert, of Millville, Pa. to her eternal rest. A kind and gentle soul, she was born on December 17,1955 to Earl “Bud” Woomert and Betty (Leas) Woomert at the Reading Hospital, Reading, Pennsylvania. Cathy was raised in Reading and was a member of thee “13th Street Gang” as she completed her education from kindergarten through college on North 13th Street. In the 1960’s, this unique feat was listed in Ripley’s Believe It or Not as being the only place in the United States where it can be accomplished.

Cathy’s unquenchable thirst for learning and knowledge made her choose to continue her education earning a B.S. in Psychobiology graduating Cum Laude from Albright College. She then earned an M.D. graduating from Penn State University’s College of Medicine. She completed her residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Hershey Medical Center where she was also Co-Chief Resident of Diagnostic Radiology. Finally ending her formal education, she was awarded a Fellowship in Body Imaging and became a Faculty Instructor through Hershey Medical Center. She was certified by the American Board of Radiology in 1991. After her schooling she held many top appointments in the Radiology Department at Geisinger Medical Center’s Main Campus. She moved to Alaska for 2 years to work at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage to help advance their Radiology Department. Prior to her retirement in 2021, she worked part time at the Williamsport Hospital. Due to her vast medical knowledge, she was often called to serve as a Medical Expert in many Court proceedings. Cathy was affiliated with many Radiology Societies and served on the 2011 Hospital Specialty Board of Trustees of PAMEDSOC. She also served in many capacities with the Pennsylvania Radiologic Society. She also became a Fellow of the American Board of Radiology in 1998. Cathy published many, many articles on the topic of Radiology.

Her love of travel, bird watching and for animals in general led her on many adventures, often with family members, to far off locations. She traveled to Scotland, Trinidad and Tobago, Newfoundland, Costa Rica and to South Africa on a safari. Bird watching took her to many places in the United States as well, traveling to Alaska, the Everglades, Chincoteague, Kissimmee, the Great Salt Flats and the Great Dismal Swamp, which she joked was exactly as the name suggested! She attended the Eastern Waterfowl Festival in Easton, Maryland each year collecting many hand carved bird species. Cathy loved and practiced Yoga. She participated in a Yoga retreat at Camp Victory where she learned from and became friendly with Hudson Leike, who was Callisto in the Xena series. Cathy was happy to show Hudson around the town of Millville, Pennsylvania. Hudson was quite taken with the town which reminded her of Mayberry, RFD! Cathy’s love of horses led her to purchase a horse farm in Loretto, Pennsylvania. The farm specialized in breeding, training and showing reining horses under the watchful supervision of 2-time World Reining Champion Ed Trueman and his wife Lorie Shaw. She was a member of many horse affiliated organizations.

A great supporter of all animals, Cathy donated to many organizations for the care, protection and preservation of many animal species. She also donated to Camp Victory as a memorial to her father and created Bud’s Woods on the property. She never forgot her time at Albright College and had created a trust, providing scholarships for many students.

She was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her beloved brother, Michael E. Woomert of Reading. She will be greatly missed by her extended family. She is survived by longtime friends, Dr. Lorie Gottwald of Maumee, Ohio, Linda Rinker of Milton, PA., and Lorie Shaw of Loretto, PA. She is also survived by friend and Colleague Dr. Dom Conca of Danville, PA., Ruth Ann Henrie, of Millville, PA who was not only Cathy's secretary, but also her friend. Cathy will be greatly missed by her special little visitor, Gracie Lynn, who always made Cathy smile and never left without leaving artwork on her refrigerator.

The family would like to thank health care aides Linda, Tara, Peggy, Reyna and Kylie for the care, love and compassion shown to Cathy daily. Also, thanks to Geisinger Hospice Care, especially Kelly and Shaelynn for the guidance and care shown in this difficult time not only for Cathy but for the family as well. Lastly, thank you to Cousin Sherri Schaich-Jurbala, of Benton, PA. Her constant care and concern for Cathy cannot be measured. Her selfless support and ability to handle things both large and small as they arose were remarkable. She went toe to toe with doctors if needed and was an advocate for Cathy’s wellbeing. No matter what the problem, no matter what time, day or night, she would say, “Whatever it takes!” Her quirking and sometimes inappropriate sense of humor often lightened the mood. Thank you doesn’t seem to quite be enough to say.
