Cynthia Kay Mappin, 78, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Penn State Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Reading, PA.
Born on June 13, 1944, in Frostburg, MD., she was the daughter of the late Cynthia Laverne (Krause) Rendar and George “Blackie” Rendar. Cynthia was also predeceased by many aunts and uncles, but most recently by Maura Ann (Mappin) Dubus.
Cynthia worked as a vocal music teacher in the Allegany County Public School System at Beall High School until her retirement in Maryland. She also taught in the Berks County Public School System until her retirement in Pennsylvania.
Surviving Cynthia is her husband of 55 years, Richard Mappin. She is also survived by two sisters, Roxanne Reuse and husband, Bob, of Lavale, and Georgette Gajewski and husband, Mike, of Baltimore, and one brother – in – law, Merle Charles Mappin, of Fort Lauderdale, FL. Cynthia is also survived by cousins, Patricia Petro, of Windber, PA, Kay Castillo, of Brownsville, TX., Father Richard Albasano, of Palm Beach, CA., Mark Nightingale, of Frostburg, MD., Brian Nightingale, Beaufort, SC., and Deborah LeDoux, of Birmingham, AL.
Cynthia is also survived by nephew, Christopher Moderacki, of Baltimore, Casey Mappin, nieces, Ashley Sopcheck and Alana Mappin, all of Fort Lauderdale FL., and grand nieces and nephew, Emily, Erica, and Gary Sopcheck.
A Memorial Service for Cynthia will be held at Frostburg Memorial Park, 70 Green Street, Frostburg, Maryland 21532, on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 12:00 PM, Pastor Chris Skidmore officiating. A memorial mass will be held at St. Ignatius Loyola R.C.C. in West Lawn, on Saturday, April 29, at 9:30 AM, Father Thomas Bortz to officiate.
