Dolores D. Gehman, 91, of Reading, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2025. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Ronald Gehman, to whom she was married for many years.
Dolores, better known as “Nanny” or “Dolly”, was born in Reading, Pennsylvania on September 8, 1934 to the late Frederick and Margaret Deissler. She worked as an office manager at Warners Fuel, located in Mohnton, Pennsylvania. She would walk to work every day and was a familiar face to many Mohnton locals.
Dolores and Ronald, a military man, married young. While Ronald was in the service, she would frequently travel to his Army base, in Georgia, by bus. She would often recount the long bus trips and of soldiers and friendly folks that she met along the way.
After starting their family, Dolores, Ronald, and their daughter Holly would enjoy spending time in their picnic woods. Dolores and Holly would spend their summer days at the Mohnton pool, or frequenting the Shore of Wildwood, New Jersey. Dolores was known for her green thumb, and cultivated a variety of plants and flowers annually, a tradition which has been passed down through the generations. She very much enjoyed summer weather, but would pray daily for a snow storm throughout the winter months.
Dolores impressed her love and passion of animals upon everyone she knew. There were seldom times in her life when she didn’t have a cat or dog (or two) living as a companion with her. Her most beloved pet Goldie, a Golden Retriever, set a high bar for any dog that Dolores would own.
Her greatest accomplishment was being a grandmother; both her grandchildren and great grandchildren loved her deeply, and were the pride and joy of her life. She was always planning ahead for the next holiday, and would never miss sending a holiday card with her signature, “Love, Nans”, and a scratch-off ticket if you were lucky. Nanny was only a phone call away for anyone that needed her. She was overly proud of the accomplishments of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and she would be sure to tell you that during any conversation. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her.
Dolores is survived by her daughter, Holly Bubbenmoyer, wife of Jeff; grandchildren, Jessica Gerhart, wife of Christopher, Heather Krager, wife of Steve, and David Mull, husband of Gabriella; and great grandchildren Wyatt and Paisley Gerhart, and Alena and Matthew Krager.
A graveside service for Dolores will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Haines Church Cemetery, 591 N Church Rd, Wernersville, PA 19565.
