Doris E. Epler, 88, of Reading, passed away Friday July 29, 2022 at 3:51 pm at Beebe Hospital, Lewes, Delaware. She was the wife of the late Oliver R.G. Epler who passed away October 8, 1997. Born in Reading, Mrs. Epler was the daughter of the late Austin J. and Elsie A. (Unger) Lessig. She was a member of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a market administrator at AT&T for 32 years retiring in 1986. Mrs. Epler was a life member of Bell Atlantic\Verizon Telephone Pioneers, Chairwomen of the board of the Foster Grandparents Program of Berks County, Served on the Pennsylvania State Board for the office of aging, Site Co-coordinator for the VITA tax program for Berks Encore, member and past president of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church Council, Committee women of 15th Ward 6th precinct, past president of Junior Women’s Club of Reading, past president of PTO for Northwest Elementary School and past president of Reading Pagoda Lioness Club. Mrs. Epler is survived by her children William P. Epler, husband of Kathleen Epler of Hoffman Estates, IL; James A. Epler, husband of Karen Epler of Greenfields; Susan L. Epler with whom she last resided; Elizabeth A. Epler, companion of Jim Distefano of Lewes, DE; Linda A. Sloss, wife of Chuck Sloss of Harbeson, DE and was preceded in death by her sister Margaret Lloyd.
Funeral Service will be held at Bean Funeral Home, 1605 Rockland Street, Hampden Heights, Friday, August 5, 2022 at 10:00 am. Reverend Mary E. Wolfe will officiate. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. The family will receive relatives and friends at Bean Funeral Home Thursday, August 4, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Friday from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, 601 North Front Street, Reading, PA 19601 in memory of Mrs. Doris E. Epler.
