Emmett “Pete” M. Lien, Jr., 91, formerly of Reading, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, in Phoebe Berks Health Care Center where he was a resident for the past 2 years. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Dorothy (Graves) and Emmett M. Lien, Sr. He was the loving husband of Nancy L. (Stall) Lien, who passed away June 28, 1992. Pete graduated from Reading High School in 1952. Later that year, he enlisted in the United States Navy, served during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged in 1956. During his time in the Navy, he served aboard the USS Macon, which became the flagship of Cruiser Division 6. The Macon and its crew primarily patrolled in the Mediterranean region. Following his service in the Navy, Pete returned home to raise his family and to work for the Reading School District for the next 30 years. He collected tickets at the Reading High Basketball and Football games and worked security at the Santander Arena. Pete devoted over 25 years to the kids of Reading as a coach for the Northwest Spartans and Olivet Boys Club. He considered it an honor and privilege to be able to coach and mentor hundreds of inner-city kids on and off the field over those years.

 Pete is survived by his children, Lori L. Clark, wife of Jim of Venice, FL, Emmett M. Lien, III, husband of Carol of Temple, Kelly L. Shilling, of Reading, Michael M. Lien, husband of Kimberly of Grill, Kristen A. Torchia, wife of Andrew of Leesport. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Ryan Ott, Daniel Ott, husband of Bella, Corinne Weg, wife of Lenny, Courtney Good, wife of Peter, Zachary Lien, Abbey Nyce, wife of Jesse, Jordan Lien, Marlee Shilling, wife of Zachary, Michael Shilling, husband of Emily, Anthony Lien, husband of Alexis, Adriane Shroyer, wife of Matt, and Angelina Torchia, and 13 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Nancy, Pete is predeceased by his sisters, Dolores “Sissy” Noecker, Shirley Filak, and Barbara “Babs” Martello.

 A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 12:00pm, in GT Church, 1110 Snyder Road, Reading. The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, October 18, 2024, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm in GT Church. Interment to follow services at Laureldale Cemetery with military honors to be rendered by the United States Navy. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to GT Church, 1110 Snyder Rd., Reading, PA 19609.
