Eugene Leon Yachera, 87, of Exeter Township, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at 9:00 am, surrounded by family and friends at home. He was the husband of the late Martha Elizabeth (Sofranko) Yachera who passed away December 27, 2024. Born in West Hazelton, Pennsylvania, Mr. Yachera was the son of the late Leo and Mildred (Kasmarsik) Yachera. He graduated from West Hazleton High School in 1956, received an Associate degree in Electrical Engineering from Penn State University in 1958, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Lafayette College in 1968. Mr. Yachera was employed by Lucent Technologies (f/k/a Western Electric/AT&T/Bell Labs) in Reading, PA as an electrical engineer for 36 years until his retirement. Following his retirement, he was employed for 3 years at Emcore Corporation in Somerset, NJ. He is survived by his children Elizabeth Ann (Yachera) DiCostanzo, wife of Robert DiCostanzo of Branchburg, New Jersey; Timothy J. Yachera, husband of Kathleen (Connelly) Yachera of Ellicott City, Maryland; Kathryn J. (Yachera) Jessen, wife of Neil Jessen of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania and William E. Yachera husband of Anna M. (Szulc) Yachera of Parsippany, New Jersey and his 7 grandchildren (James Yachera, Christopher DiCostanzo, Joseph Yachera, Caroline (Yachera) Witschey, Alexandra DiCostanzo, Nicholas Yachera & Victoria Yachera. Nieces/nephews: Debbie & B.J. Sofranko, Kaylee (Yachera) Miller, Brianne (Yachera) Glad, Michael Jr. Yachera, Shannon Yachera, Kerrie Gabriel and David Rappaport.
Also surviving is his brother Robert Yachera husband of Karen Yachera of Mohnton, Pennsylvania and he was preceded in death by his brother Michael Yachera of McAdoo, Pennsylvania. He was a member of Saint Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, Exeter Township.
Eugene was a member of Knights of Columbus, AT&T Pioneers, and Judge of Elections for Exeter Township. He also enjoyed the following hobbies: photography, swimming, jigsaw puzzles, yard work, traveling, restoring/maintaining automobiles, and vacationing with the families in Ocean City Maryland and the Outer Banks in North Carolina. Eugene and his wife Martha also enjoyed traveling frequently between NJ, PA and MD to celebrate countless family events and gatherings, grandchildren’s soccer/baseball/basketball game, piano recitals, band & orchestra concerts and ballet performances.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church 4975 Boyertown Pike, Exeter Township, Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 10:30 am Interment will follow at Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery, Doylestown. The family will receive relatives and friends at Bean Funeral Home, 6 Fairlane Road, Exeter Township, Friday July 31, 2026 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and at Saint Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church Saturday from 9:30 am to 10:00 am. Floral tributes would be appreciated or contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors Project PO Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516 in memory of Mr. Eugene Leon Yachera.
