George Knappenberger

George R. Knappenberger, 74, formerly of Shillington, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Southeastern Veterans Center. Born in Reading, Mr. Knappenberger was the son of the late Paul H. and Kathryn (Medrick) Knappenberger. He was a 1965 graduate of Governor Mifflin High School and served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his first wife Ruth (Trusty) Fatzinger of Reinholds, daughter Lois R. Carl, wife of Barry C. Carl, their children Mary and Evan of Alsace Township, and Kayla wife of Brandon Oxenreider of Mohnton; son Eric J. Knappenberger, husband of Madilyn Knappenberger and their children Mya and Taya of Mohnton. He was preceded in death by his second wife Sheila M. (Schwartz) Knappenberger who passed away May 16, 1993. Survived by their daughter Heather M. Pissarra, wife of Stephen Pissarra and their children Zach and Sheila of Hamburg. He has two great grandchildren Alex and Liam Oxenreider.  Mr. Knappenberger is also survived by his brother Dr. Paul H. Knappenberger, Jr. husband of Naomi Knappenberger of Virginia and his sister Penny A. Knappenberger of North Carolina.  He was preceded in death by his sister Mary Louis Knappenberger.

George lived a full life and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed activities such as hunting, fishing, sports and storytelling.

Funeral Service will be held at Bean Funeral Home, 129 East Lancaster Ave. Shillington Friday, October 29, 2021 at 12:30pm.  Interment with Military Honors rendered by the United States Navy Honor Guard will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery.  The family will receive relatives and friends at Bean Funeral Home Friday from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in honor of Sheila M. (Schwartz) Knappenberger to the American Cancer Society 3810 Adler Place, Suite 170, Bethlehem, PA 18017 in memory of Mr. George R.
