George I. Weiss

              George I. Weiss, 92, of Sewell, New Jersey, formerly of Reading, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023 in his residence.  Born in Chester, he was the son of the late Blanche H. (Hoffman) and Julius M. Weiss.  He was the loving husband of Marlene S. (Soltz), who passed away May 12, 2016.  George graduated from Chester High School in 1948, attended MIT from 1948 to 1951, and received a bachelor’s degree from Temple University in 1953.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army.  He was a member of Chabad of Berks County.  George worked as the Merchandise Manager for Boscov’s Department Store for 31 years before his retirement in 1996.  After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling to his home in Cape May, NJ with his wife, Marlene.  George was a humble man, who was secretly very generous and giving to his family, friends, and community.  He always made sure his family was supported and cared for. 

               George is survived by his sons, Gary I. Weiss, husband of Adele of New Jersey, Jeffery R. Weiss, and Martin S. Weiss, husband of Jinju of Texas.  Also surviving are his grandchildren, Michael, Alex, Christina, Brian, David, and Julia. 

               A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 30, 2023 at 12:00 pm at Shomrei Habrith Cemetery, Route 724 & Route 10, Reading, PA 19607.  Rabbi Yosef Y.
