Gloria Smoker Brown

Gloria Smoker Brown (Snyder), 95, of Exeter Township, formerly of Wyomissing, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at her home in The Berkshire Commons. She was the loving wife to Burton D. Brown for 50 years, before his passing on April 13, 2000. Born in Reading, Gloria was the daughter of the late Lester J. Snyder Sr. and Emma K. (Smoker). Gloria was a graduate of Reading High School, class of 1945 and graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Cadet Nursing Program at The Reading Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. She went on to work for many years as a Director of Nursing at the Hawthorne House and A Doctor’s Nurse before her retirement. 

Gloria was heavily involved in her church and community, she was a member of West Lawn United Methodist, and served as the President of the United Methodist Woman’s Organization and the Wyomissing Hills Women’s Club. She was also a girl scout leader and worked as a camp nurse. 

Surviving Gloria are her children, Dr. David Burton-Brown, of Philadelphia, Jeffrey S. Brown, husband of Louise, of Wyomissing, and Dr. Deborah Ann Brown Reber, wife of Robert, of Whitfield. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Richard, Sarah, Rachel, Elizabeth, Oliver, Elliott, and great grandchildren, Austin and Aubrey. She is also survived by sisters, Elaine Damore and Kathy Reed. 

In addition to her husband Burton, Gloria is predeceased by her siblings, Janice Snyder, Lorraine Reichert, and Lester J. Snyder Jr.
