Howard S. Murphy

Howard S. Murphy, 79, of Exeter Township, passed away Wednesday October 14, 2026 at 5:30 pm at Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara L. (McGinley) Murphy. Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Murphy was the son of the late Lawrence E. Murphy, Sr. and Edna M. (Tooley) Murphy. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Douglassville and served in the Pennsylvania National Guard. Mr. Murphy was a food service supervisor at the former Graterford Prison for 19 years retiring November 23, 2003. In addition to his wife, Mr. Murphy is survived by his step-son Scott A. Rupert of New Jersey; his step grandson Joseph M. Rupert and step granddaughters Haley Jean and Emma Ann. He was preceded in death by his siblings Lawrence E. Murphy, Jr., Virginia Leister, Mary Murphy Eidell, Robert Murphy and James Murphy.

Graveside Service will be held at Keelor’s Union Cemetery, Neiffer Road and Route 73, Upper Frederick Township, Montgomery County, Wednesday October 21, 2026 at 11:00 am. Reverend Gregory Frey will officiate. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Humane Pennsylvania 1729 North 11th Street, Reading, PA 19604 in memory of Mr. Howard S. Murphy.
