Owner, President of Evans Food Distributing Inc. Passes Away

The owner & president of Evans Food Distributing Inc., Reading, PA, Jack W. Evans Jr., 82, of Lower Alsace Township, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at 7:00 pm at home.  He was the loving husband of Christine S. (Querns) Evans for forty-five years.  He was previously married to the late Linda L. (Horst) Evans, who passed away in 1976. Born in Reading, Mr. Evans was the son of the late Jack W. Evans, Sr. and Blanche (Burns) Evans.  He was a member of Zion Spies Evangelical & Reformed Church.  Mr. Evans was active in the Lake Wynonah Fish Committee where he enjoyed running concessions for the trout rodeos; was active in boy scouting with his four sons; served as a volunteer firefighter with Mount Penn Fire Company for twenty-five years; Jack was recognized by the Reading Chapter of the Order of DeMolay as top advisor where he was additionally awarded the Guild of the Leather Apron for outstanding advisor in Pennsylvania. Mr. Evans was a master mason at Reading Lodge #549 and a member of Rajah Shrine. 

In addition to his wife, Mr. Evans is survived by his children David J. Evans husband of Michelle Evans of Pittsburgh; Jeffrey Scott Rogers of Camp Hill; David M. Rogers husband of Dawn Rogers of Blandon and was preceded in death by his son Jack W. Evans, III, husband of Marcia E. (Valletta) Evans of Exeter Township, who passed away December 30, 2008.  He is also survived by his grandchildren Sean Evans husband of Kristen Evans; Alex Evans husband of Nicole Evans; Jeffrey Rogers husband of Abby Rogers; Kayla Evans fiancé of Michal Menet; Kimberly Rogers wife of Dorian McKay; Jacob Rogers; Mikah Rogers and his 4 great grandchildren.  Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his sisters Barbara Hershey, Martha Reganhart and Susan Brown. 

Jack cherished watching his grandchildren grow up, enjoying Easter egg hunts and Thanksgiving gatherings on the farm. Recently blessed with great-grandchildren, he found profound happiness in their presence, celebrating the continuation of his family's legacy.

Funeral Service will be held at Bean Funeral Home 6 Fairlane Road, Exeter Township, Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 10:00 am.  Reverend Vaughn Starr and Reverend Merrill R. Marisseau will officiate.  Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park.  The family will receive relatives and friends at Bean Funeral Home, Friday, February 23, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am to 9:45 am with a Masonic Service conducted by Lodge 549 F&AM at 9:45 am.  Floral tributes would be appreciated, or contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Philadelphia.
