James Roland Schweitzer

James Roland Schweitzer, 87, formerly of Kenhorst & Wyomissing, passed from death to life and met his Savior Sunday, February 25, 2024 at 12:15 am at Laureldale Nursing   Center. He was the loving husband of the late Annette L. (Schwanke) Schweitzer who passed away June 8, 2021. Born in Altoona, James was the second son of the late Ferdinand and Florence (Stitt) Schweitzer. He was preceded in death by his older brother Gene Schweitzer. Jim was a life member of Maranatha Baptist Church where he and his wife taught early elementary Sunday School for many years. He was employed by Chemical Leaman Tank Lines as a terminal manager for 30+ years until his retirement and then as a courier for Lab Corp. He graduated in 1954 from Altoona High School, went on to Penn State and then served in the United States Air Force in International Falls, MN. While stationed there, he met the love of his life at a dance hall. He told his buddies as he looked across the room that, “the red head is mine”. And indeed she was for 63 years of marriage. Jim also had 3 daughters with Annette, who concur he was the best Dad ever. They are Sherry A. Reber wife of Edward R. Reber of Mohnton; Cindy K. Dowd wife of Dennis R. Dowd of Catawissa and Wendy L. Blimline wife of Jeffrey H. Blimline of Narvon. His 5 grandchildren Ryan, Justin, Collin, Bekah and Katie Anne have thus far also given him the legacy of 5 great grandchildren. Jim enjoyed gardening, carving, woodworking, fishing and generally just being outdoors whenever he could.

Graveside Service will be held at the convenience of the family at Yocom’s Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by Topton American Legion Post 217.
