Janice Eileen Buckwalter

Janice Eileen Buckwalter, 79, of Reading, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Pottstown Nursing and Rehab. Born in West Reading, Janice was the daughter of the late, John Barton Buckwalter Sr. and Mary E. (Fox) Buckwalter.

Janice was a graduate of Governor Mifflin High School, class of 1964, and went on to achieve her Bachelor’s in Elementary Education for Kutztown, class of 1968, and Master’s in Education from Penn State, class of 1973. She worked as a Librarian and a Teacher for The Reading Area School district and for over 40 yrs for the Governor Mifflin School district.

Janice is survived by her siblings, Susan M. Ponczka, wife of John, of Shillington, and John B. Buckwalter Jr., of Cabot, Arkansas, her 9 nieces and nephews, and many others who always referred to her as “Aunt Janice”.

Janice was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Mohnton, where she taught Sunday School for over 40 years and served several terms on church council, sang in the choir, and rang the bells.

A Memorial Service for Janice will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 11:00 AM in St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1 Front Street, Mohnton, PA 19540. The family will receive guests from 10:00 AM to 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Janice’s memory to the St. John’s Memorial Fund.
