Joann Montz

JoAnn D. (Nester) Montz, 84, of Reading passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2021 in Manor Care Health Services – Laureldale.  Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth T. and Helen M. (Gring) Nester.  She was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth L. Montz.  And the long-time companion of Michael Screpsi.

JoAnn worked as a Secretary for Camp Hosiery for 22 years before retiring in 1993 and in the Cash Receipts Office at UGI.  She had a deep passion for taking care of animals and would often take in or feed strays around the neighborhood.  JoAnn loved baking, especially cookies and candy.  She would collect porcelain dolls and display them around the house.  JoAnn’s grandchildren and great grandchildren were truly adored by her and she will be greatly missed by them.

JoAnn is survived by her sons, Grant S. Leonti, husband of Sharon of Duncannon, and Gary D. Leonti, husband of Robin of Lenhartsville.  Also surviving are her grandchildren; Angela, Anthony, Tanya, Shawn, and Brandon and her 10 great grandchildren.  JoAnn is preceded in death by her half-brother, David W. Gring.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2021 in Bean Funeral Homes, 1605 Rockland Street, Reading at 12:00pm.  Pastor David Reinwald to celebrate.  The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.  Interment will follow services at Forest Hills Memorial Park.
