June Naomi (Cook) Matchett, of Reading, PA, died in her home on August 28, 2025, at the age of 94, after spending a week surrounded by loving friends and family members. June was born in North Wales Hospital January 4, 1931, and grew up on West Point Pike in Lansdale, PA. She graduated from North Wales High School.

June was preceded in death by her husband Charles Matchett, mother Naomi Cook, father Russell A. Cook, and sister Judith (Cook) Lorenson.

Together June and Charlie’s blended family includes 8 children: Jeff Stewart (married to JoAnn) of Attleboro, MA; Jill (Stewart) Naomi-Russell of Santa Cruz, CA; Sandy (Stewart) Gesang (married to Elliot) of Graham, WA; John Bradley Stewart of CA; Sally (Stewart) Cook of Shillington PA; Scott Matchett of Flying Hills PA; Julie (Matchett) Keller (married to Tom) of Mohnton PA; Curt Matchett (married to Wendy) of Lancaster, PA. Additionally, June and Charlie were blessed with 14 grandchildren: Colvin Marshall; Michael Gesang; Jessica Keller; Ryan, Abby, Miriam, Joanna and Natalie Zeller; David and Emily Stewart; Ross and Jane Stewart; and Chloe and Ginger Matchett. And 3 great-grandchildren: Ethan, Aiden and Anya Gesang. June will also be sorely missed by her two dear kitties, Shelby and Flora.

Some of June’s favorite activities included travelling, hosting parties, and relaxing with her extended family and friends. An annual trip to Stone Harbor, NJ was a family favorite. As generous and delightful hosts, a highlight of each year for June and Charlie, was hosting their famed Kentucky Derby Party. Their guests will no doubt fondly remember June’s mint juleps, Kentucky butter cake, and cheese grits souffle.

June was an avid volunteer. Some of her volunteer activities included caring for children with disabilities at Wernersville State Hospital (now associated with Berks Heim) in the 1960’s and 1970’s. June’s family was part of the Fresh Air Program of Reading, as well, welcoming the program’s youth into their home for visits and vacations with June’s young family. June taught adult Sunday School at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Reading PA in the 1970’s. She also volunteered for many years at Mt. Penn Elementary School. Later she volunteered teaching English as a second language in the city of Reading, and with Meals on Wheels, and with local Hospice providers.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Bean Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. 3825 Penn Ave. Sinking Spring, PA 19608 on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 1:45pm. Amy S.
