Sinking Spring, PA

Kathleen “Kathy” Kline (née Gilliams), of Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 13, 2026.

Born on February 20, 1947, in Reading, Pennsylvania, Kathy was a lifelong resident of the area and remained closely connected to the community she called home.

She was married to her husband, David W. Kline Jr., who preceded her in death on August 8, 2013. They were high school sweethearts and married on October 7 as young newlyweds, beginning their life together. Just weeks later, on October 26, David was drafted into the Vietnam War.

Kathy is survived by her 2 brother Kevin Gilliams and Kerry Gilliams, her children, Janell Hoffmaster (Brian), Christopher Kline, and Jennifer Kinder; and her grandchildren, Tyler Kinder, Bradley Hoffmaster, Nicolas Kline, Gaige Kinder, CJ Kline, and Emily Hoffmaster.

Her grandchildren meant the world to her. She shared a special bond with her grandchildren, and her presence meant something unique to each of them. She found deep happiness in simply being with them and watching them grow.

She worked for the Reading School District, beginning as a lunch aide, where she was known and loved, and later as a teacher’s assistant in special education. She brought patience and a quiet steadiness to her work, offering care and consistency to the children she supported in ways that left a lasting impression.

Kathy found meaning in caring for others. She expressed that through the meals she prepared, the baking she shared, and the small, thoughtful gestures she gave without needing recognition. Her home was a place where people felt comfortable and cared for.

She enjoyed crocheting, doing puzzles, and was an avid reader. She found peace at her favorite place, Bethany Beach. She was a die-hard Philadelphia Phillies fan and absolutely loved Billy Joel and The Phantom of the Opera. She often sang along to her favorite songs and enjoyed bus trips to New York City to see The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway.

She will be remembered for her kindhearted nature, her thoughtfulness, and the steady way she showed up for the people in her life. She had a quiet presence that brought comfort and a sense of ease to those around her.

She is also remembered by her beloved dog, Taffy, who brought her companionship and comfort.

In accordance with her wishes, no services will be held.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Diabetes Association
