Madlyn Umbenhouer

Madlyn (Balthaser) Umbenhouer, 95, of Wyomissing, passed away on September 24, 2025, at the Reading Hospital. Born in Centre Township, PA, she was the daughter of the late Oliver R. and Herma (Bucks) Balthaser. She was the loving wife to Gene R. Umbenhouer for over 63 years of marriage before his passing on, July 16, 2015.

She was a graduate of Centre Township Consolidated School and Muhlenberg High School, class of 1948. She worked for 38 years in Reading, retiring from Core States in 1992.

After retiring, she worked in the church office of Advent Lutheran Church for several years. She was a member of Advent Lutheran Church since 1957, she taught Sunday School and was Circle Leader Vice President in Lutheran Church Women. She also served on Evangelical committees, audit committees, and voluntary committees.

Madlyn enjoyed cross stitching, playing games, card games, reading, walking, and spending time with her friends and family.

Madlyn is survived by her children, Gary Umbenhouer, husband of Colleen, of Douglassville, Gail Undheim, wife of Rick Adams, of Sinking Spring, her granddaughter, Heather Faller, wife of Lance, of Sinking Spring, her great grandchildren, Aidan, Logan, and Kayla Faller, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Gene, Madlyn is predeceased by her daughter Kim L. Umbenhouer, and siblings, Mabel Steffey, Ralph Balthaser, Wilma Kunsman, Lawrence Balthaser, Esther Swanger, Sarah Hoffman, Warren Balthaser, and Arlene Hollenbacher.

Funeral Service for Madlyn will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 12:00 PM in Bean Funeral Home, 3825 Penn Ave. Sinking Spring, PA 19608. Inurnment to follow in Laureldale Cemetery. Pastor William B. Fryer Jr. to officiate. The family will receive relatives and friends in Bean Funeral Home, Sinking Spring, on Friday, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
