Mary L. Fitzgerald

Mary L. Fitzgerald, 87, of Flying Hills, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026, at Reading Hospital. Born on July 29, 1939, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Gabrielle and Maddalena (Gabbappini) Cagnetti, Mary grew into a compassionate and caring individual. She graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1958 and went on to have a fulfilling career as a medical equipment technician, first at Sharp Point for 16 years and then at Alcon until her retirement in 2005. As a faithful member of Holy Guardian Angels, Mary's family was her rock, and she showed her love through the simple joys of baking, cooking, and sharing meals together. 

Mary leaves behind her devoted sons, Sean M. Fitzgerald of Flying Hills and Matthew P. Fitzgerald of Las Vegas, Nevada; her brother-in-law, Dante Santoni; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and their children.Mary was predeceased by her sisters, Sarah Ahrens, Louise Durinzi, and Carmella Santoni.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Holy Guardian Angels 3125 Kutztown Road Reading, PA 19605 on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 10:00am. Entombment to follow at the Gethsemane Mausoleum. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church from 9:00am-9:45am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, in memory of Mary L. Fitzgerald.
