Mary R. Pflum

Mary “Polly” Pflum (nee Ross), a resident of Mifflin Park for over 70 years, passed away on May 8, 2025 at the age of 98. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on April 8, 1927, Polly was the only child to Laura Duxbury Ross and LeMaire Hull Ross. She was a graduate of Calvin Coolidge High School and Bucknell University. While at Bucknell, Polly met William (Bill) F. Pflum, Jr. of Reading, PA; the two fell in love and married in 1949. After graduation, the couple moved to Mifflin Park, built a home, and welcomed their two children, Cynthia Ann (Pipkin) and Bruce William. While her children were young Polly was an active member of the PTA and a Scouting leader. She and Bill traveled extensively and enjoyed spending time with their family. In 1988 Polly and Bill welcomed their only grandchild, Laura Elizabeth. Polly enjoyed sewing, reading, and researching her family’s genealogy. She was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church in Reading where she served on the altar guild, taught Sunday school, and was a member of the Episcopal Church Women. At the time of his death in 2011 she and Bill had been married 62 years.

Polly was predeceased by her parents Laura and LeMaire Ross, her aunt Mary Sickels, and her husband William Pflum. She is survived by her children Cynthia Pipkin and Bruce Pflum; her daughter-in-law Donna Hermany Pflum; granddaughter Laura Pflum and her husband Sean Zimmerman.

A Celebration of Life, with inurnment to follow, will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Christ Episcopal Church, 435 Court Street, Reading, PA 19601.
