Melvin Baer

Melvin F. Baer, 83, of Wyomissing, passed away August 31, 2008 at 3:00 pm in the Reading Hospital a patient for one day. He was the husband of the late Louise I. (Manderbach) Baer who passed away May 5, 1985. Born in Wyomissing, he was the son of the late Edwin and Annie(Gring) Baer. He was employed for 27 years as a welder for Dana Corp. retiring January 1977.Mr. Baer was an Army veteran of WWII; member of East End Athletic Club Bebeficial Society; Northmont Fellowship Club Beneficial Society. He was a bass guitarist and vocalist for various bands including Steve Baer Orchestra; The Ad-Libs during the 1950's and 1960's; The Mifflin Four which was later known as Captain and Crew from 1996-2006. Mr. Baer is survived by his sister, Edna Staudt of Fort Myers, Florida, Several nieces and nephews and his Loving companion of 24 years, Virginia K. (Barnett) Bickta of Reading. His wonderful sense of humor and vocal ability prevailed until his final moments.
