Michael S. Dysart

Michael Steven Dysart went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 7th, 2026, at the age of 69 years. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, on July 18th, 1956, he was the son of the late Stanley Harrison Dysart, Jr., and the late Evelyn Dysart Badmagharian. Michael, or “Mike,” met the love of his life, Jan Marie, at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and they were blessed with 41 years of marriage. She walked into their class with, as he put it, “hair of gold,” and he knew he had to meet her. As the operator of their college phone line, Mike convinced his future wife to date him when she called into the boys' dormitory to speak to someone else. He was convincing, and they married three years later.

Mike and Jan spent their lives making people feel welcome. Their home was always a place of respite for kids in the neighborhood or just friends who wanted to chat. It was Michael’s specialty: talking with people and making them smile. During his time at Southwestern, he obtained a Master of Divinity and a Master of Church History. Mike served as a chaplain, and then a pastor, for ten years. In these roles, he combined his love for the Lord with his gift of making others feel welcome, helping them grow in their faith. Most recently, he spent the last few years in the insurance industry, using his gift for connection to help others in times of need.

Michael and Jan loved to travel. Their passion for exploring new places was rivaled only by their shared love of cycling. Michael loved to find new experiences and share them with his family. Through photos and videos, he constantly documented his life to include his family in how he felt about every important moment. From pictures of a good meal his wife was making that day to a beautiful sunset, he couldn’t help but share his joys with everyone.

In everything, he loved his family. His passion for making his wife feel special, his daughters feel seen, and his grandchildren feel loved was one of the many things that made Mike the amazing husband, father, and grandfather he was.

Michael will forever be remembered by his wife, Jan Marie Dysart; his daughters, Jennifer Dysart Winston (Jesse) and Katie Lauren McCullough (Jonathan); and his grandchildren, Eliana Marie Winston, Jonathan Wesley McCullough IV, and Levi Harrison McCullough.

Michael was the third of four siblings. His older brother, Stanley Dysart III, went to be with the Lord in September 2024. He is survived by his sister, Katherine Lawson (Jeffrey), and his brother, John Dysart (Yvette).
