Mildred Anna Burns has gone to her heavenly home. Mildred, 89, of Conway, SC died March 6, 2026 surrounded by the loving arms of her family. She was born and resided most of her life in Reading, PA.
Mildred was blessed with two children: Stephen S. Burns of Conway, SC and Kathy L. Bell of Wyomissing, PA. Mildred loved her seven grandchildren: Anthony Romano, Matthew, Mitchell and Michael Burns, children of Stephen and Donna Burns; Tyler, Jeremy and Kristy Bell, children of Kathy and Steven Bell. In recent years, she was thrilled to be blessed with two great grandchildren, Hayden and Rhys Burns, children of Mitchell Burns and his wife Kylee (Bair) Burns. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren provided joy and pride.
Mildred was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Burns, brother Walter Lehnke Jr., her parents, Walter and Caroline (Smith) Lehnke and a granddaughter, Marie Burns, daughter of Stephen and Donna Burns.
She graduated from Reading High School in 1954, and earned her degree as a Registered Nurse at Reading Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. Mildred worked for 26 years at Reading Hospital as a nurse in the Psychiatry Department before retiring in 2001. Mildred also worked countless hours helping her late husband, Jerry Burns, at Burns Department Store in Laureldale, PA.
A woman of great faith, Mildred thanked the Lord daily for her life, her peace, her many friends and all the blessings she received. She will be remembered for her warmth, her quiet elegance, and her love of family. Mildred was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing, crocheting and playing games. For all of her 89 years, Mildred was very active in the New Apostolic Church. She loved spending time in prayer and fellowship with the many wonderful members of her church.
Friends may call Saturday, March 14 from 9am to 10:20am at Bean Funeral Home, Hampden Heights, 1605 Rockland Street, Reading PA 19604. A Memorial Service will begin at 10:30am at the Funeral home followed by interment at Gethsemane Cemetery mausoleum. Online condolences may be made at www.beanfuneralhomes.com.
