Morris "Moe" Demsko, 79, of Reading passed away peacefully on Saturday April 30, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Ann B. Demsko. They shared 51 years of marriage. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Morris was the son of the late Walter and Victoria (Topolski) Demsko.
He graduated from McKeesport High School in 1961. He then served in the U.S. Army until being honorably discharged in 1966. He was a PA State Trooper for just over 30 years serving in the Aviation Division as a helicopter pilot until 1986, then transferring to the Troop L barracks in Kenhorst. Morris was a kind and caring person. He always offered encouragement, especially to those less fortunate, or those who didn't realize their own potential. This was his motivation as he was director of Camp Cadet for many years. During his time with Camp Cadet, he mentored numerous young people who, as adults, still looked to him for support and direction. They referred to him as a friend, mentor, and even a father-like figure. He was also instrumental in the Gifts for Kids program. He was recognized for his work in the community as the very first PA State Trooper of the Year in 1994. After retiring from the State Police in 1995, he was employed by Security Guards Inc. working in security at the Berks County Courthouse. Most recently he worked for Bean Funeral Homes.
Family was very important to Morris. He enjoyed spending time by the pool and taking day trips with his grandchildren. Morris was a devout Catholic, and his faith was very important to him. In addition to his family, it was a centerpiece in his life. He was a long time member of St. Margaret Catholic Church in Reading where he volunteered and served as a Eucharistic minister for many years. He was also a Third Order Discalced Carmelite and was active in the Allentown Diocese Cursillo movement, where he developed long time personal relationships that he valued dearly.
In addition to his wife, Ann, survivors include his daughters: Maria, wife of Mark Tenreiro, Christen, wife of Jason Glessner; 2 grandchildren: Miles and Madelyn; and brother: Robert Demsko and his wife Helen; nieces and nephews.
