Robert E. Gehman

Robert E. Gehman, 94, of Wyomissing, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at The Reading Hospital. He was the loving husband to Evelyn Grace (Zillhardt) for over 52 years of marriage before her passing on May 28, 2007. Born in Reading, Robert was the son of the late, Robert Landis Gehman and Daisy Grace (Witmer). Robert graduated from Mohnton High School in 1947 before he went on to complete his studies at the McCann School of Business and the University of Pennsylvania Extension School of Accounts and Finance, through the Wharton School of Business. Robert worked for more than 34 years at Metropolitan Edison Company in Reading, PA. He began his Met-Ed career as a bookkeeper and was eventually named treasurer, a position he would hold for nearly 20 years until he retired in January 1990. Robert was immensely proud of his military service, having served in the United States Army from 1948-1951. One of his greatest honors was having served as a guard at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington, VA, as well as being stationed overseas in Butzbach, Germany. During his working years and in retirement, Robert was very active in business development in the Berks County area, serving directorships with the Greater Berks Development Fund, the Reading Center City Development Fund, the Berks County United Way, the Berks County Industrial Development Authority, the Pennsylvania Development Credit Corporation, and the Utilities Employees Credit Union, and was an active member of the Reading-Berks County Chamber of Commerce and a director at the Topton Lutheran Home.

Robert is survived by his daughter, Brenda N. Meyers, of Wyomissing, his granddaughter, Lindsey T. Mills, wife of Dale Jr., Wayne, PA, and his great grandchildren, Fiona Grace, and Samuel Robert.

In addition to his wife Evelyn, Robert is predeceased by his siblings, Ronald Gehman and Roscine Paul.

Funeral service for Robert will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 10:00 AM in Bean Funeral Home, 3825 Penn Ave. Sinking Spring. Interment to follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown. The family will receive relatives and friends in Bean Funeral Home, Sinking Spring, on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
