Robert James ‘Jim’ McLaughlin, 74, of Sinking Spring, passed away peacefully in his residence on Friday, July 5, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Barbara Jo (Pleam) McLaughlin. Together they shared 50 years of marriage and raised two sons and many Vizslas.

Born in Pottsville, PA, he was the son of the late Robert F. and Margaret (O’Toole) McLaughlin. Jim was a graduate of Wilson High School Class of 1967. He excelled in wrestling, and football earning Tri-County Team honors and Wilson’s Century Club for tackles. Jim played at the University of Connecticut, and later played semi-pro ball for the Wilimantic Wreckers. During his life, he worked as a Residential Construction Superintendent, having built thousands of homes for Zager Construction, Grande Construction and Pennwynne Construction. 

Jim was happiest when he was outdoors, especially enjoying trout fishing and archery hunting. He was a founding member of the Tulpehocken (Berks County) Chapter of Trout Unlimited and was past president and lifetime member of Cushion Peak Rod & Gun Club. 

Jim is survived by his loving wife Barbara of Spring Township; his sons, Michael, husband of Janet, of West Lawn; Matthew, husband of Amanda, of Camp Hill; grandsons Killian & Sammy who were the light of his life; sister Kathleen Evans of Lewisburg, stepmother, Dorothy McLaughlin, of Hamburg;; and sister-in-law Paula Stauffer of West Lawn. He was predeceased by his brother Richard McLaughlin.
