Rodney Dietrich

Rodney S. Dietrich, 90, of Wernersville, formerly of Reading, passed away on Wednesday, August 20th, at 9:10 a.m. at Phoebe Berks Health Care Center.

Born January 17, 1918 in Reading, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Marie D. (Beard) Dietrich, and husband of Lelia (Dukes) Dietrich, at home.

His first wife Jeanne (Russell) Dietrich passed away in 1992.

He was a US Army Veteran during World War II, and worked for 25 years as a Product Engineer for the Former Western Electric in Reading before retiring in 1983. He was also a former member of the American Society of Quality Control Engineers.

He was a member of Calvary Reformed U.C.C. Church in Reading, and a former elder at the church. He was a former instructor at Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute for 11 years. He also served as an Instructor at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, a Teacher's Assistant for the Berks Co. Intermediate Unit. He also served as Docent for Berks Co. Heritage Center for many years.

He is survived by a daughter: Susan Dietrich Gring, wife of Dr. David Gring of Moneta, VA; sons: Craig Dietrich of Queensland, Australia, and Eric Dietrich of Wyomissing; grandchildren: Lori, Kevin, Karen, Meckella, Christian, and Lisa; great grandchildren: Reese, Bryce, Katherine, David, Jackson, and William.

Memorial service from the Chapel at Phoebe Berks Village, 1 Reading Dr., Wernersville, Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Dr. Stephen Ohnsman officiating. Private interment at Laureldale Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
