Ruth Englehart

December 7, 1910 — February 8, 2009

Ruth Englehart, 98, formerly of Reading and Temple, passed away Feb. 8, 2009, at 5:30 p.m. in the ECC Retirement Village-Stone Ridge Campus, where she had resided since 1991.



Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Aaron A. and Nora M. (Eavling) Englehart.



She was a 1929 graduate of Reading High School and a 1931 graduate of Kutztown Normal School with a teaching certificate. She was a 1938 graduate of Kutztown State Teacher's College with a degree in elementary education.



She was a third grade teacher for 40 years at Amanda Stout Elementary School, retiring in 1971.



She was a member of First Baptist Church, Reading, since 1923 and the oldest member; a former Sunday school teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher and attendance secretary for Sunday school.



She was a life member of the National Education Association, the Pennsylvania Education Association and the Reading Education Association.



She loved to travel to many locations throughout the world.



She was a member of the Wyomissing Club and Women's Club of Reading.



She was a volunteer at the Berks County Historical Society and "will be sadly missed by her friend Sophie."



Survivors include her devoted grand-niece, Julie A., wife of Michael R. Brown and their son, Christopher M. Brown.



Other survivors include a niece, Nancy C. Aulenbach; and a nephew, Jack S. Englehart.
