Sandra (Sandy) Elaine Reitz, 84, of Mohnton passed away on July 1st, 2026. She was the widow of Richard Clair Reitz who passed away in 1984. Sandy was a 1959 graduate of Governor Mifflin High School.
Born on November 24th, 1941, and raised in Shillington, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Gladys (Piersol) Glass.
Sandy will forever be missed by her daughter Lori Hoffert, wife of Michael, Shillington; her granddaughter Erin Keller, wife of Kyle, and her great-grandsons, Everett and Finnigan Keller of Sinking Spring. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Judy Glass, widow of Lawrence Glass Sr., and nephews Larry Glass, Jr., Michael Glass, Tyler Glass, and one niece, Dianne Glass. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Dean Reitz, husband of Margaret Reitz, sister-in-law Nancy Reitz, widow of Donald Reitz, as well as four nieces and one nephew.
Sandy devoted her life to helping others through her numerous volunteer projects throughout Berks County. She was a proud Master Gardener for over 25 years and enjoyed visiting gardens throughout Pennsylvania. Her volunteer work included: Campfire Girls, Friends of Nolde Forest, Hopewell Furnace, Berks County Earth Day, Dry Road Farms, Women’s Club of Mohnton, Mohnton Memorial Day Committee, and Mohnton History Committee.
Gamie or Gam-Gam could be found sitting on her side porch in her aluminum rocking chair eating a chicken cheesesteak from Boehringer’s or enjoying a slice of pizza on a Tuesday. She enjoyed lighthouses, walking on the beach to find holey seashells especially in Cape May, cheering on Penn State football, watching The Hallmark Channel, sewing, painting rocks, decorating wreaths, collecting postcards, and listening to Dean Martin. Her family will miss her Gamie-isms like rustling “bay-ags” as she called them, and her pronunciation of garage as “grrr-rardge”.
Sandy’s viewing will take place on Thursday, July 9th, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM in Bean Funeral Home, 129 E. Lancaster Ave. Shillington, where a funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM. Interment to follow in Pleasant View Cemetery.
The family prefers remembrances in the form of contributions in Sandy’s memory to the Friends of Nolde Forest or Heartland Hospice of Wyomissing.
