Sinking Spring

Anna Elizabeth (Wartzenluft) Long, age 99, of Sinking Spring passed away of natural causes on January 5, 2022, at the Phoebe-Berks assisted living center.  Anna was born in Spring Township on September 22, 1922, the daughter of Royal Wartzenluft and Stella (Hettinger) Wartzenluft.  She was predeceased by her husband Warren H. Long (died August 2002). They were married for 52 years.  She also was predeceased by her daughter Wendy Long (died March 2021).  She is survived by her son, Craig Long (wife Angela), and grandchildren Meighan Long (Wendy), and Shannon and Camryn Long (Craig and Angela).  Her brother Albert Wartzenluft was killed in action in 1945 during WWII.

Anna grew up in Sinking Spring, and attended Sinking Spring High School where she was the valedictorian of the class of 1940.  She graduated from Grove City College in 1944 and received a degree in chemistry.  She was a pioneer woman in science as she worked at American Cyanamid and DuPont before her marriage to Warren in 1950.  She became an earth and space science teacher at Wilson High School (West Lawn, Pa) in 1958 where she inspired the love of earth science in hundreds of students.  She retired in 1984 after teaching for 26 years.  Retirement didn’t slow her down; she learned to play golf and joined the ladies league at Village Green in Sinking Spring.  She also loved reading and playing the piano.

Anna and Warren were long time members of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sinking Spring.

Services will be held at later date.  Bean Funeral Homes, Sinking Spring is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may be made at www.beanfuneralhomes.com.
