Carolyn Speck

Carolyn A. Speck (née Adams), 92, formerly of Mount Penn, passed away on July 15, 2021 at the Complete Care Berkshire Center.  Her husband of 57 years, Wayne O. Speck, died on October 14, 2005.

Mrs. Speck was born on December 27, 1928, in Berks County to the late Ralph and Virgie (née Weaver) Adams.  Mrs. Speck dedicated her life to caring for her beloved family and sharing her deep appreciation for music with others.  She was a piano and organ teacher at Zeswitz Music in Reading for 30 years.  After formally retiring from Zeswitz Music in 1987, Mrs. Speck continued to provide piano lessons to students until she was in her mid-80s.  Her passion for music lives on in the hundreds of students she taught throughout her lifetime.  Mrs. Speck is survived by her daughters Brenda Alena of Douglassville and Michele Gallen (wife of Francis Gallen) of Pennside; her grandchildren Ryan Alena (husband of Rachel Alena), Chad Alena, Meredith Gallen, Quinn Gallen (husband of Jessica Gallen); and her great-grandchildren Madelyn and Savannah Alena.  Mrs. Speck is also survived by her sisters Lucille Vogel of Allentown and Barbara Fair of Oklahoma.  She was preceded in death by her brothers Terry and Donald Adams.

Funeral services will be held at Bean Funeral Home (1605 Rockland Street, Hampden Heights) on Friday, July 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.  Entombment will follow at the Chapel of Resurrection at Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum (3139 Kutztown Rd, Reading, PA 19605).  The family will receive relatives and friends at Bean Funeral Home before the funeral service, from 9:30 a.m to 11:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Reading Musical Foundation (PO Box 14835, Reading, PA 19612 or https://readingmusicalfoundation.org/) in memory of Mrs. Carolyn A.
