Elaine Meckes

Elaine Walizer Meckes 86 passed away on Sunday April eleventh while at Berkshire Center.

Elaine was born December 17, 1934 in Wilkes Barre PA, the only daughter of Vincent Walizer and Grace Monk Walizer.

Elaine graduated from Lehighton High School in 1952, she pursued a career in the banking business upon graduation.

When her high school sweetheart and love of her life Bruce Meckes returned from US Army service in Korea in 1955, they were married, and together celebrated 66 years of marriage.

Elaine continued to work in banking while Bruce attended Penn State University. She left banking when son Scott was born in 1961. She worked in Real estate and volunteered her time to church and civic causes while raising her family. Daughter Melisa Noel was born shortly before Christmas in 1971. Elaine was a creative and artistic lady who avidly taught ceramic arts to many and used those talents to bolster fund raising for her church and others. She enjoyed needle point and was an accomplished cook. Her keen financial and accounting mind was a driving force behind her family’s prosperity. She utilized those same talents for the generations old Bennett’s candies company operated by her husband and now her daughter, Melissa.

Their relocation to Reading in 1983 saw the couple join and become a decades long contributing member to Lincoln Park Community UMC. Serving in many capacities and committees including Finance and her and Bruce’s passion, the annual Church Flea market.

Elaine and Bruce travelled extensively, National parks, Alaska and California a were a passion and frequent destination.  They also traveled To Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan and other destinations in the far east. Elaine was especially fond of any trip that included a Disney park.

Elaine is survived by Daughter Melissa Miller wife of Keith Miller and grandchildren Madysen and Mason Miller all of Sinking Spring and Son Scott Meckes Husband of Cassandra Crouch Meckes of Canton GA.

Memorial service will be held at Lincoln Park Community Methodist Church 1 Carlisle Ave. Reading, PA 19609, on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 10:00am. Bean Funeral Homes, Sinking Spring is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made too www.beanfuneralhomes.com.
