Joseph Bennett Kuhn, 97, of Wyomissing, passed away on April 2, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Joanne, and was predeceased by his wife, Jean, in 1997. He was born in Philadelphia on April 10, 1923, and was the son of Harry and Ethel Kuhn.
Joe served in the U.S. Navy on a patrol craft escort ship in the Pacific from 1942 to 1946. He graduated from Penn State and worked at Alcoa and Beryllium Corporation as a metallurgical engineer. He was a Penn State Master Gardener, a Raggedy Andy at the Reading Hospital, a docent at the Reading Museum and Berks County Heritage Center, a member of the Lions Club, and also active in his church.
Joe is survived by son, Tim (Rena), of Toledo, Ohio; daughter, Beth (Todd), of Sinking Spring; daughter, Nancy (Chris), of Nara, Japan; and stepdaughter, Joelle (Chris), of West Orange, New Jersey. He is also survived by seven grandchildren - Brian (Lucy); Heather (Jeffrey); Josiah (Yuko); Julia (Sammy); Tim (ZhiZhen); Michael (Katie); and Kelsey. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren - Cashton, Silas, Mckenzie, Yoshiya, Tomoki, Asaph, and Rika.
The family is grateful for the compassionate care provided by Ellen and Julie of AseraCare Hospice, and also the care given by Assured Assistance.
A memorial service will be held at West Lawn United Methodist Church 15 Woodside Ave. West Lawn, PA 19609, on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 10:30 am with visitation starting at 9:30 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to West Lawn UMC at the above address in memory of Mr. Joseph G. Kuhn. April 7, 2021 8:41 AMJoe was a gentleman, a friend, and an unfailing source of goodwill and humor. He served wonderfully as a Penn State Master Gardener for many years and will be remembered for his energy and dedication to whatever task fell to him. We are all richer for having known Joe.
