Mary Suzanne "Sue" Boulanger

September 25, 1930 — September 1, 2021

Shillington

Mary Suzanne “Sue” (Kernan) Boulanger, 90, of Shillington, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 in the Reading Hospital after a brief battle with cancer.  Born on September 25, 1930 in New Kensington, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph B. Kernan and Florence (Hill) Kernan.  Sue was the loving wife of Edmond Jean Boulanger, together they shared 30 years of marriage until his passing on July 5, 1987.

Sue graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics from Penn State in 1952.  It was still the golden age of air travel when she began her career as an Airline Stewardess for Capital Airlines.  She greatly enjoyed her years of world travels and meeting new people before she married and started a family in Virginia and then settled in Maryland.  Sue was a devoted mother of five children.  With four of their children under the age of five and her husband working full time while attending law school at night, she was nothing short of an amazing mother and wife.  Later in life Sue began a second career as a Model Home Sales Assistant for Kettler Brothers Homes, delighting her enthusiasm for interior design until her retirement.

Sue had many other talents and passions – seamstress, gardener, the arts, food and wine.  She made every gathering and celebration memorable with her extra special touches.  Above all, she cherished time spent with family and her role as a proud grandmother.

Sue is survived by her children; Patrice S. Boulanger, wife of Joe Brodt of DE, Amie B. McLean, wife of Mark N. McLean of VA, Andrea J. Bleinberger, wife of Hans Bleinberger of MD, Kernan M. Boulanger, of MD, and Marie B. Boulanger, of Elverson, PA.  Also surviving are her grandchildren; Dr. Andrew Bleinberger, husband of Morgan, Forrest Bleinberger, Kyle Brodt, Haley and Luke McLean, Collin and Ella Whitlock.  Sue is preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Apel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of St. Benedict on September 30, 2021 at 11:30 am with reception immediately to follow.  Sue’s final resting place will be Arlington National Cemetery beside her late husband.  Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of a memorial donation to the American Cancer Society.  Bean Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may be made at www.beanfuneralhomes.com.
