Robert Frederick

February 16, 1929 — January 21, 2021

Sinking Spring

Robert “Bob” Earl Frederick passed away from complications related to COVID-19 on January 21 at the age of 91. Bob was born in Mount Penn, Pennsylvania to Earl Frederick and Dorothy (Mottern) Frederick on February 16, 1929. He had a loving relationship with his late sisters, Margaret “Peggy” Brusch and Barbara Rader, and remained close friends with their husbands throughout his later life.

Bob married his wife Beryl (Kramer) Frederick on May 23, 1959. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage, and together raised their son Brian Robert Frederick. As a family, they loved to go on road trips, visiting places like Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park, Calgary, San Diego, and San Francisco. Bob and Beryl also loved to host gatherings of friends and family at their Octagon Ave home in Sinking Spring.

Bob graduated from West Reading High School in 1946, before serving in the US Army during the Korean War, where he reported for the Stars and Stripes newspaper. He spent his career in advertising at Carpenter Technology Corporation, where he began working in 1946 and continued until he retired as Advertising Manager in 1992.

He was a founding member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ located in Wilshire in 1959. Bob went on to serve on the church’s consistory for many years, with multiple terms as President, and as a representative to the UCC Penn Southeast Conference. Through his involvement in the church community, he instilled in his family the values of generosity, inclusivity, and service.

To his three grandchildren, Allison, Matthew, and Haley, he was known as “PopPop.” A proud grandfather, he put his family first, and loved to spend time with them. He entertained his grandkids with silly stories about Betty Boop, Timbuktu, and Kalamazoo. He encouraged a love of reading, as well as an appreciation for the finer things in life—like sticky buns, grapefruit,  shrimp cocktail, and ice cream parfaits.

In 2019, Bob celebrated his milestone 90th birthday at a party with many friends and family. He resided with his wife, Beryl, at Phoebe Berks Village in Wernersville since 2015.

Bob is survived by his wife Beryl Frederick of Wernersville, PA; his son, Brian Frederick of Hanover, PA; grandchildren Allison Barycki and husband Scott of Reston, VA; Matthew Frederick and wife Sydney of Hanover, PA; and Haley Frederick of Arlington, VA.

The family will hold a private burial at Charles Evans Cemetery. A public memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bob Frederick’s memory to St. Peter’s UCC, 2901 Curtis Road, Reading, PA 19609. Bean Funeral Homes, Sinking Spring is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made to www.beanfuneralhomes.com.
