Robert Powers

June 28, 1933 — April 19, 2021

Robert C. Powers, 87, passed away on Monday April 19, 2021 at The Heritage of Green Hills with his loving daughter by his side. Born in Philadelphia, Bob was the son of the late Carlton M. Powers and Beatrice (Miller) Powers. He is survived by his daughter Judi Powers and her fiancé, Russell Jones, of Hudson, NY.

Bob was an avid skier, pilot, sailor, archer, hunter, fly fisherman, tennis player, and golfer. One of his proudest accomplishments was scoring a hole-in-one at Pinehurst’s famed Tobacco Road Golf Course. His hobbies took him to the tundra in northern Canada, Andros Island (Bahamas), New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, and Austria, among others. Spending time in the mountains, in streams and oceans, and up in the sky gave Bob endless joy.

A talented artist and self-taught architect, Bob designed and built two of his homes with unique flourishes that made each room special and interesting. He loved art and visiting museums and always noticed small details that others often overlooked.

Bob shared all of his passions with his daughter. From fishing trips to Montauk and Lake Ontario to visits to The Ponderosa (his hunting cabin in Potter County, PA), from ski trips to Colorado and Vermont to summers on his boats on Blue Marsh Lake, from visits to museums to meals with friends, Bob and Judi always enjoyed their time together.

Bob had a long and distinguished career as a real estate broker working throughout southeastern Pennsylvania and at the time of his retirement was focused on commercial and industrial development, working with Turkey Hill and Wawa, among many others. Bob loved being a realtor and matchmaking properties with his clients. He brought to his work the same sense of  passion and dedication that fueled his hobbies.

A consummate gentleman, Bob greeted everyone with a nod, a smile, and a warm handshake. He wasn’t a long conversationalist, but if you spent time in his company it’s because he wanted to share his time with you.

In 2018 Bob took a serious fall and sustained an injury to his brain. That injury never kept him down and he remained passionate about his hobbies and interests, even though his participation in them became limited.

A graduate of J.H. Landis Joint Consolidated High School in Schwenksville PA, Bob served in the United States Air Force as an Airman Second Class from 1953 to 1957 and received the National Defense Service Medal. He was honored to be an Eagle Scout for The Boy Scouts of America (1950), a Shriner at the Raja Temple of Reading, and a Freemason 32º (Northern Masonic Jurisdiction).

Bob’s was a life that was truly well lived and his loss is profoundly felt by his friends and family.
